The pregnancy was unplanned: I was 27 and felt too young to be having a baby. I had an abortion, but a month after the procedure I was still experiencing morning sickness. I went to the doctor and he told me the abortion hadn’t worked: I was still pregnant. It’s difficult for me to think about that time now. I was distraught. Jerome and I tried to take the fact that I was still pregnant as a sign that we were meant to have this baby, and, looking back, I suppose we were.
