“The first time world heritage listing was raised for Cape York was about 42 years ago, when the International Union for the“Traditional owners have known that for thousands of years. There are thousands of years of history and culture here to be protected.”Southern Kaantju traditional owner Allan Creek said world heritage protection would give them more opportunity to protect their country for ever.

However, the Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief executive officer, Mark Olsen, was sceptical of the idea that world heritage listing would have any long-term effect on travel interest.
