Medical experts fear Western Australia is headed for a second COVID-19 wave, with daily case numbers surging past 10,000 for the time since the beginning of the pandemic."This is what happens when you reduce restrictions when the pandemic is in the plateau phase," Australian Medical Association WA president Dr Mark Duncan-Smith said.Premier Mark McGowan said police are monitoring a COVID-19 outbreak in the Aboroginal community of Jameson, which has been locked down.
"If that figures goes up to say 300 or 350 then that would cause a significant strain on the medical system."At some point in time you have to remove restrictions and it was basically based upon the high levels of vaccination," he said. "So, perhaps the best measure is the ICU admissions which is way, way, way less than what was predicted."
