Matthew Lock, known as Matty, has died at the age of 19
Matty was a politician, campaigner and television presenter. He was a popular member of the Labour Party in Sefton and Merseyside and was recently elected as a town councillor in Maghull.
Sefton Central Labour MP Bill Esterson was Matty's friend and he confirmed on social media yesterday Matty had died. Many Labour politicians from Merseyside and beyond shared their sadness at the news.Alongside his political work, Matty appeared on ITV show This Morning to review vacuum cleaners. In a tweet today, the ITV programme's account said: "Everyone at This Morning is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matty Lock aged just 19. He was a delightful young man, a joy to work with and his passion for vacuum cleaners and general mechanics was infectious.
"His family came to the studio and they were so proud that he’d turned a childhood hobby into a career. We will miss him and send our condolences to his family."Liverpool Riverside MP Kim Johnson said: "Terribly sad news about Cllr Matty Lock at such a young age. My thoughts are with his parents, his comrades and his friends. May he rest in peace."
Cllr Peter Harvey said: "So sad. I admired Matthew Lock who put in ‘hard yards’ campaigning across Sefton and beyond for @UKLabour including alongside me in Formby & Freshfield in May. He was bright, full of energy and seemed destined for a future in politics. Thank you, Matty."
