Vogue road-tested Hershsons’ new The Great hair dryer – and the results were seriously impressive.
When I visited him at the Hershesons salon in Belgravia, Luke explained why he felt there was a gap in the market for its inception. “We wanted to create a tool that was really, really effective, but at the same time uber-light,” he says. “People always complain about hair dryers being too heavy and not efficient enough. You want a tool that can do everything, from amazing diffused curl dries to a big power blow dry, without the risk of arm ache.
A success by all accounts, the nifty blue hair dryer, which costs £295, is as “heavy as a large iPhone, about 10 slices of bread, three cups of almonds and lighter than a can of Coke”, laughs Hersheson. Which is 294g if you’re asking. “It’s also quieter than its leading competitor.” Utilising lots of new technology, it works differently to most other hair dryers. From the brushless motor which reduces sound, to a special air outlet that multiplies air flow without using extra power, it also contains “Oxy Active” technology, whereby it emits active oxygen that reduces bacteria and subsequently boosts shine, elasticity and protects hair colour. It’s a tool that truly makes beautiful, healthy hair effortless and easy.
“Essentially, it’s the hair dryer that we use to get great hair,” says Hersheson. “I think one of the things people don’t realise is that to get great hair, you need a great hair dryer. I can’t do my job unless I have an amazing one, and this has been with me in my kit when working with everyone from Dua Lipa to Victoria Beckham and Kate Winslet. I’ve used it on everyone.”
