Austrian Audio makes some superb professional headphones and microphones for studio use, but now the brand has launched a USB microphone that morphs into a portable studio with a range of optional accessories that make it possible to record a podcast or music anywhere.
I think this is possibly one of the most unusual USB microphones I’ve ever reviewed. It’s a combination of classic 1950s styling with a retro military appearance. The MiCreator Studio unit is compact enough to fit into the pocket ofn a pair of jeans. The condenser capsule has a shock-mounted and the built-in audio interface has the essential controls needed to record a podcast or stream live music.
The Satellite unit is ideal when you need two mics to record a podcast with a guest or for recording vocals and guitar separately. The combined signal gets fed from the MiCreator Studio to the host computer via the USB-C port on the back of the main unit.As well as looking incredibly robust, the MiCreator Studio has interchangeable magnetic faceplates for its front and back. These can be swapped out for faceplates of different colors.
The three different microphone sensitivity settings on the MiCreator Studio include a “Low Gain” setting that can handle loud sounds up to 130 dB SPL. The microphone can be tilted back to give it the ideal positioning for capturing vocals. There’s also an additional input at the rear of the MiCreator Studio that enables the unit to be used for multi-tracking and stereo recording.Setting up the MiCreator Studio is easy.
