There’s a new wave of wealth entering the Rich List. Of the 13 new entrants, seven are aged 40 or under.

James and Robbie Ferguson remember getting into trouble for sneaking off to play video games rather than doing their homework.

Joining them are a host of entrepreneurs who featured on last year’s Young Rich List. Of the 13 debutants, seven are aged 40 or under, helping drive down the average age for a new member to 46.7 years, well below the average age of a Rich Lister at 67.7 years. “I think you’ll be buying NFT insurance contracts or term deposits or financial instruments pretty quickly,” he says. “Goldman Sachs said it is looking at tokenising real assets.”Out on May 27: The definitive list of Australia’s wealthiest people, now in its 40th year.They’re moving at warp speed to stay ahead of the pack. As they look back on their early success they concede that even though playing video games helped them create their business, their parents actually had a point at the time.

Born in Lebanon as Wassim Arnaout, the Iris Capital chief executive grew up in western Sydney and did an apprenticeship in panel-beating before working in sales while completing a diploma in construction.
