The British tour company announced the liquidation of the firm on Monday, leaving over 20,000 unemployed and 150,000 UK citizens stranded abroad.

For those with upcoming travel, they are instructed to not go to the airport as their flights and travel plans have been canceled. Those who choose to book an outbound flight with another agency will not be eligible for a government-provided repatriation return flight.

In a blog post by Virgin Group founder, Richard Branson partially blamed Brexit, saying ,"the drop in the pound following the referendum put even more pressure on the struggling business, which has been saddled with large debt for a number of years. A large proportion of the travel industry costs are in dollars -- for example fuel maintenance and airplane leasing. With the weaker pound, the cost of everything has skyrocketed. For Thomas Cook, this has proved terminal.
