Jackzen Rairdon is equal parts style and substance. His first-round victory in the Class 4A state tournament at Ball Arena put him one step closer to a rare wrestling achievement: An undefeated 50-win sophomore season and back-to-back state championships.
When Jackzen Rairdon steps onto a wrestling mat, the first thing you’ll notice is the hair.
Rairdon, who claimed the 106-pound title a year ago, improved to 47-0 this season with a fall in 3:37 against Broomfield’s Keegan Pottorff to advance to the quarterfinals Friday. Rairdon has yet to lose a varsity wrestling match in his entire prep career . Rairdon is especially polished on the mat with a defensive style that leaves opponents zero room for error. It all started when Rairdon was 5 years old with his parents’ decision to enroll him in lessons — out of necessity.Rairdon translated that emotion into a fiery passion for the sport. He began traveling for national tournaments starting in elementary school and eventually joined the Bear Cave Wrestling Club based out of Greeley.
