A mostly original Thornbury house on the market for the first time in 70 years sold at auction on Saturday for $105,000 more than its reserve.

A three-bedroom brick home sold for $1,485,000 in Thornbury.Property listingswas a freestanding brick home, and proved popular at auction, attracting four bidders.

The auction was slow to start, but picked up as each of the four buyers gradually began bidding in $10,000 increments. The underbidder tried to throw off his competition by placing $17,000 and $3000 bids, but was unsuccessful. One last Hail Mary $1000 bid wasn’t enough to deter the winner, who placed the final bid of $1,485,000.“It was a fun auction,” Brizzi said. “Auctions like this are always entertaining. It’s good when people can have a laugh.Many potential buyers had admired the home for its solid brick construction, he said, but it would still need some updating.
