Heavy rainfall and gale force winds are wreaking havoc on large parts of the NSW east cost and as far inland as Oberon.
A man died in floodwaters in Sydney’s inner west on Sunday and thousands of people were told to leave their homes as authorities warned a dangerous weather event would escalate.
The heavy rain and gale force winds have hit an area of NSW stretching from Newcastle down to the South Coast and as far inland as Oberon, and is forecast to worsen over the coming days. NSW Emergency Services Minister Steph Cooke said the situation was life-threatening and added residents didn’t need to wait to be told to leave.
“We are now facing dangers on multiple fronts ... If you live anywhere between Newcastle and Batemans Bay, please don’t be caught unaware by the current weather situation.”
