JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax is shining light on a power problem that plagued a local neighborhood on a sweltering Sunday.
Power outages hit several neighborhoods and kicked up the heat, with the JEA outage map showing more than 10,000 customers affected in the Cedar Hills area.A JEA spokesperson told Action News Jax that an equipment failure impacted five circuits at a nearby substation, saying it could have been for a number of reasons.“It’s cooler outside than it is going to be in my house,” she said.
The same thing happened to a local smoke shop off Wilson Boulevard. Employee Yaqub Battle said that when he got to work, there was no power, which hurt some sales and had employees using a candle. The outage map showed over 2,000 customers affected in the Sweetwater and Hyde Park areas, after the original outage in Cedar Hills. A spokesperson said they believe the outages in these areas could have been linked but they have since been resolved. Each outage varied in how long it lasted for.
JEA tells Action News Jax there are no more outages than normal this summer. They also tell Action News Jax the outages could’ve been caused by several different things, saying that failures are sometimes caused by animals. Currently, JEA doesn’t have a specific cause.
