Australians applying for entry-level jobs are now competing with as many as 106 other jobseekers for every single role in the country. 9News
Earlier this month Australia Post announced it was hiring for 4000 new jobs in the biggest hiring spree in the organisation's 210-year history.
Even more staggering is that when Australia Post advertised for 1,000 casual positions during the peak of the pandemic, it received an astonishing 50,000 applications.Following the announcement of the Federal Government's JobMaker plan – which subsidises the cost of wages for employers who hire young Australians on welfare – Anglicare Australia found that it was older Australians who are set to suffer most.
"They're facing cuts to their payments, and they're being forced to jump through hoops and apply for jobs. But our research shows the jobs just aren't there. "We've been hearing from people on JobSeeker that more than 1000 others have applied for the same jobs," Ms Goldie said.
