The health trust has urged members of the public to respect their staff, sites and buildings

In a Freedom of Information request responded to on February 9, the Belfast Trust detailed the number of staff members who were physically assaulted, verbally abused, or sexually assaulted from 2019 to 2023.

The highest number of physical assaults on staff in the area last year took place in community locations, where 1,200 physical assaults took place, followed by Muckamore Abbey Hospital where 807 such assaults occurred. The highest number of such incidents were recorded at Knockbracken Healthcare Park Site, followed by 97 incidents at the Belfast City Hospital site.

In response to these figures, a spokesperson for the Belfast Trust said: "Belfast Health and Social Care Trust operates a zero tolerance policy when it comes to abuse of staff.
