Thousands of pro-Palestine supporters have begun their march through London as police warn that anyone showing support for Hamas or deviating from the route could face arrest.

On Saturday afternoon, the force announced it had introduced powers which requires the removal of any items which conceal their identity, such as balaclavas and face masks, until 10pm across the protest route and its surrounding areas. This includes Kensington, where the Israeli embassy is located. Attacks on Israel by Hamas last weekend killed at least 1,300 people, mostly civilians. At least 2,200 people have been killed in Gaza as Israeli forces retaliate.
This morning BBC headquarters, located close to the start of the planned protest, was sprayed with red paint amid the controversy over its refusal to call Hamas terrorists. Between 29 September and 12 October 2023 there were 105 reports of anti-Semitic incidents and 75 anti-Semitic offences in London. That is compared with 14 anti-Semitic incidents and 12 anti-Semitic offences during the same time the previous year.
