Fully vaccinated travellers attempting to cross into the Sunshine State via road have been warned of lengthy delays and long queues as thousands of Queenslanders rush to the border.

Thousands of families are expected to be reunited from 1am on Monday after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk moved to ease the restrictions following the state achieving 80 per cent double-dose vaccination coverage.

Queensland’s border finally reopened to fully vaccinated Australians from coronavirus hotspots on Monday. “Extensive delays are expected at state border crossings on Monday and Tuesday with anticipation there will be high volumes of returning Queensland residents and travellers driving into the state,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
