Thousands will protest in every Australian capital city on February 8th in response to the Queensland government's ban on puberty blockers and hormone therapies for children experiencing gender dysphoria. The Trans Justice Project and other advocacy groups are calling for accessible and affordable gender-affirming care for all who need it, urging the government to reverse the ban and protect the rights of trans youth.
'Politically motivated attack': Thousands to rally in every capital city for trans youth following Qld government's decision to ban puberty blockers and hormone therapies
"By taking to the streets across the country we can pressure the Queensland government to reverse the ban, stop the attacks on trans youth, and protect access to this life-changing and life-saving health care," The Trans Justice Project wrote in a statement. The Trans Justice Project said the banning of hormone therapy by Health Minister Tim Nicholls is a"politically motivated attack" which undermines the right of trans youth to grow up with the freedom to be themselves.
Rallies are expected to be held in Cairns, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide, Wollongong, Newcastle, Broome, Geelong, Ballarat, Wagga Wagga, Shepparton, Busselton, Armidale, Merimbula and Lismore. The commissioned report, led by Hilary Cass, found there was a lack of reliable evidence based to make clinical decisions or for families and children to make informed choices in the gender dysphoria space.
