A three-alarm fire ignited at a warehouse housing a pedicab business in East Village early Wednesday, leaving one person with burn injuries and prompting the evacuation of a nearby senior apartment building, officials said.
When crews arrived, they found fire burning from the second story of the warehouse and heard lithium-ion batteries inside the building exploding, San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Robert Allen told OnScene TV. The fire quickly engulfed the entire building.About 50 residents from the Potiker senior apartments next to the warehouse were evacuated as smoke drifted into the five-story building. A third-floor balcony on the building also caught on fire, Allen said.
