A major investigation is underway after tactical police officers killed three suspects believed to be linked to the ambush and execution-style death of two cops in a rural Queensland town.
The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon about 4:30pm when four officers were sent to a property in Wieambilla, in the Western Down region, about four hours north-west of Brisbane, in relation to a New South Wales missing person's investigation.
It's understood one or both the gunmen then stood over the pair and shot them execution style where they lay, a police source told The Australian. It was confirmed shortly after midnight that two males and a female were shot dead in a confrontation with specialist police officers at about 10:30pm.
