Seven Manly Sea Eagles players intended to sit out of selection for Thursday's important game against the Roosters but three are said to be reconsidering due to a 'change of heart'.
Three Manly Sea Eagles players have had a"change of heart" and will reconsider wearing the pride jersey for the opening game of Round 20.
But players, Jason Saab, Josh Aloiai, Christian Tuipulotu, Josh Schuster, Haumole Olakau'atu, Tolutau Koula and Toafofoa Sipley argued wearing the outfit would be against their religion and culture. An emergency meeting scheduled for Tuesday was move forward to Monday night where Manly officials and the seven frustrated players discussed the issue that could threaten their finals chances as they sit just outside the Top 8.
It was revealed the Manly team were not consulted about the pride jersey and only found out about it through social media on Sunday. Club great Ian Roberts, who became the first rugby league player to come out as gay in 1995, said the LGBTQ community would be the ones most affected over this uproar.
