Three men aged 18, 19 and 20 have been charged after two women were allegedly assaulted during separate home invasions in Arncliffe and Bankstown, with police alleging the women were targeted because they lived alone.
Three men have been charged after two women were allegedly assaulted during separate home invasions in Sydney's south-west, with police alleging the gang targeted women living alone who they believed had money.
New South Wales police were called to a home invasion in Arncliffe at about midnight on Tuesday morning. Officers were told a group of men forced entry into the home and threatened a 31-year-old woman with a knife before sexually assaulting her and stealing money. The woman, who did not know the men, was taken to hospital with minor physical injuries, police said on Friday.

Officers separately responded to a reported home invasion at a unit on Jacobs Street in Bankstown at about 12.30am on Thursday morning. Police were told three men allegedly forced entry into the unit before assaulting a 32-year-old woman and stealing money. The woman, who again did not know the men, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Sex crimes squad commander Det Supt Virginia Gorman said police believed the three men had planned the alleged offences.
Police Claim Gang Targeted Vulnerable Women
She said: I believe that these men had done some research and they believed that these women might be home alone and they might have money on the premises. So they were specifically targeted. Gorman described the alleged offences as very violent. She said: Excessively violent for three men armed with a weapon against vulnerable women home alone.
They were armed with a knife. They used duct tape to restrain them. They had duct tape over their mouths. They assaulted the women, punching a woman.
Violent Tactics Described As Over The Top
You don't need to do that to overcome a solo female. The violence is over the top for what they've done. Detectives, supported by the riot squad, subsequently raided three properties in Belmore, Punchbowl and Greenacre at about 7.45pm on Thursday. Strike force detectives, alongside the Public Order and Riot Squad, Southwest Metropolitan Operations Support Group, and local police, executed the three search warrants.
Chawkat Ibrahim El Cheikh, 20, was arrested in Belmore and taken to Burwood Police Station. He was charged with aggravated break and enter and deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery and deprivation of liberty, two counts of choke person intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault and use of an offensive weapon in company with intent to commit an indictable offence. Police also charged him with depriving a person of their liberty and choking, along with other offences.
Second Suspect Arman Nangyal Faces Aggravated Charges
Arman Nangyal, 19, was arrested in Punchbowl and taken to Campsie Police Station. He was charged with aggravated break and enter and deprivation of liberty, two counts of choking a person with intent to commit an indictable offence, two counts of aggravated sex assault-deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery and deprivation of liberty, common assault, use of an offensive weapon in company with intent to commit an indictable offence and fail to comply with a digital evidence access order direction.
Adam Fakhouri, 18, was arrested in Greenacre and taken to Bankstown Police Station. He was charged with aggravated break and deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery and deprivation of liberty, two counts of choking a person with intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault and use of an offensive weapon in company with intent to commit an indictable offence. Police also charged him with aggravated break and enter and choking.
Nangyal was on conditional release at the time of the alleged offences. In June, he had been found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of others and destroying or damaging property, but no conviction was recorded. He was issued an 18-month conditional release order. The 19-year-old allegedly twice sexually assaulted the 31-year-old woman during the Arncliffe incident.
Gorman said the offences are very serious because the violence they allegedly committed was of the highest order. All three men were due to face local courts on Friday. Police alleged the men were on their way to target another person when arrested on Thursday night. We'll be further investigating that matter, the sex crimes squad commander said.
Police said the women were being supported as they recovered from the attacks. Gorman said: Physical injuries can be overcome. It's the mental injuries of having a person invade your home and do that kind of alleged violence for them that would be a long time to recover from. The court matters for all three men are ongoing.
