Ohio State took its first home loss of the season. Dive into the game with notes on E.J. Liddell, Malaki Branham and more after the loss to Iowa.

In short order, team captains E.J. Liddell and Kyle Young scooted into the postgame interview room to break down what happened. Their appearance was so fast, most reporters hadn’t even made it into the room and coach Chris Holtmann hadn’t yet addressed the team.

There won’t be much time to sit on this one. Ohio State will host Indiana on Monday night before going to Illinois on Thursday. Today, though, Holtmann dismissed the notion that the loss is the kind with the potential to linger. “I just called my wife. She’s in tears. I had to console her. Everything’s fine. I’m going to be fine. We’ll live to fight another day. We’ll get better. This is life in a big conference. We’ve got to correct our errors and find a way to be better. We’ve got a real difficult stretch coming up. We’ve got to figure out how to rest our guys too, but we’ll move forward. Hopefully we can coach and play better the next time out.

In a game where the Buckeyes made a season-low two 3-pointers and tied a season low with 11 attempts, that was never going to be enough. The problem was that, aside from freshman Malaki Branham and Young, nobody else did a whole lot to help out offensively. Aside from those three, the rest of Ohio State’s roster combined to go 4 for 17 from the floor.

In the backcourt, starters Jamari Wheeler had 3 points on 1-of-6 shooting and Gene Brown had 2 points from the line and missed both of his field-goal attempts. Cedric Russell had 4 points in 18:26 off the bench, Meechie Johnson missed his two attempts and had a turnover in his return from an ankle sprain and Justin Ahrens did not attempt a shot in 10:07.“We obviously gotta get better at these areas we struggled in. Indiana’s a traffic team and going to present a lot of challenges.
