"Fatal transport incidents and vehicle crashes are considered preventable causes of child deaths, and this data shows us that we can never be too safe when it comes to children and road safety," principal commissioner Luke Twyford said. "You're going along the road at speeds sometimes in excess of 100 kilometres an hour, and then suddenly the car is stopped and the kids are thrown forwards," he said.
At four years old, children can move from a harness to a booster seat, which is by law now required to be fixed at five points, and at age seven they can sit in the front seat with an adult seatbelt.QFCC data shows one in four children aged seven to 12 who died in car crashes were in the front seat.Child restraint legislation will soon be under review by the National Transport Commission.
