An RV used for storage initially caught fire, which then spread to two adjacent RVs, says Travis County ESD 12.
it started with an RV, used for storage, caught on fire. Then it spread to two other RVs, destroying all three.
"As crews arrived on scene, the fire was pretty extensive so due to the makeup of RVs, the tires on them, and additional combustible products, it did have the effect of off gassing of a cylinder of some type. We did not have any explosions or anything like that," Chris McKenzie, assistant chief of operations for Travis County ESD 12, said.Firefighters say getting to the spot and getting water there were both challenges.
"Crews upon arrival had to navigate down a winding dirt road that was very narrow with tree line," McKenzie said. There are also a lack of fire hydrants in the area. It took 900 feet of a 5-inch hose line to fight the fire. "We did have a hydrant approximately 700 feet to the entrance to the drive, with an additional 300 to 400 feet to the actual RVs down the dirt road," McKenzie said.and we had assistance from Travis County ESD 11 on scene also," McKenzie said."They actually saved us, because we had a lot of hose in the roadway, which if traffic was still allowed to go through, if anybody hit that hose and caused a burst, could've made things go real bad," McKenzie said.
