During sentencing, Supreme Court Justice David Boddice was scathing in his assessment of Thorburn's crimes, calling them "cold, calculating and callous".
"You murdered this defenceless child who relied on you for protection. And you did so in order to save your own son," he said.In January 2015, the Thorburn family became her full-time carers.Nine months later, Trent Thorburn confessed to his mother, Julene, and a cousin that he had sex with Tiahleigh and feared she may be pregnant.He dumped her body that night and returned home covered in mud.
