Britton Johnson, a former Alabama basketball walk-on and Mountain Brook standout, is transferring to Samford. The move will reunite him with Bucky McMillan, Johnson's former high school coach who now leads Samford.

Johnson graduated from Alabama in three years and was honored on senior night at the end of his junior season, but he asked coach Nate Oats to return for another season as he prepared for law school. Oats gladly obliged and Johnson was honored again on senior night this past season, receiving the start and playing six minutes in a win over South Carolina.
When his team was struggling to give effort in a road loss to Georgia this season, Oats brought Johnson off the bench for a career-high eight minutes.and has a fifth season of college eligibility available because of the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for the 2020-21 season. Johnson was a team captain at Mountain Brook who helped lead the Spartans to back-to-back state 7A championships in 2017 and 2018 under McMillan, who later became Samford’s coach in 2020. He set the state 7A single-season three-point record with 104 made in 2018, holds the career and season charges-taken record at Mountain Brook and set a state record for charges taken in a season.Mike Rodak is an Alabama beat reporter for Alabama Media Group.
