Ukraine has refused to back down in a bloody eastern battle as a Wagner group leader sends a chilling warning to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The eastern city has been the bloody battleground of intense fighting for more than six months as Wagner Group and Russian troops attempt to seize it for Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile the Pentagon has played down Bakhmut’s potential fall as a symbolic victory for Russia, given the devastation across the city. Ukrainian commander Volodymyr Nazarenko said forces were remaining put and the frontline was stable, despite the relentless onslaught from Russian forces. The colossal scale of fatalities has devastatingly impacted both sides and there are conflicting reports that Ukrainian troops are preparing for a possible retreat.
