Women have reset clock after more than five decades of pain, says comedian who co-wrote 1996 song
was written in 1996 and has been sung almost religiously in nearly every England match since, weaving itself into the nation’s footballing culture.
“It was beautiful to hear it sung out of Wembley yesterday, as we finally clinched a final, I really did think that would never happen,” said Baddiel. “It’s so amazing to actually think, ‘Oh, we’ve won, this doesn’t happen, it’s actually happened’.”gatecrashed coach Sarina Wiegman’s press conference Baddiel recalled the first time the song had been sung at Wembley in 1996 as England beat Scotland. The refrain “It’s coming home” is a reference to the fact that when the song was released, England was hosting its first big football tournament since the 1966 World Cup.
Baddiel added: “You’re supposed to say the best day of your life is when your children are born – I’m not so sure of that.”
