The transport minister says a request for her to front an inquiry examining the decision to reject Qatar Airways from expanding its services in Australia is a political stunt, and a waste of her time.

Transport Minister Catherine King has rebuffed an attempt for her to front an inquiry to answer questions over the decision to reject Qatar Airways' proposed expansion into Australia's major airports, saying it would be a waste of her time. The Senate committee wants to question the minister about her decision to block a proposed Qatar Airways expansion

Under aviation rules, countries must make agreements on international flight services, including how many flights an airline can service. In a statement, Ms King did not conclusively reject the invitation to appear, but told the ABC the inquiry chair Bridget McKenzie had invited her as a stunt. "This is the height of evasiveness from a minister who should be accountable for the decisions she makes but is instead hiding from scrutiny."
