A major breakthrough came this week as the Gardai announced they had moved their investigation to a murder enquiry.
For years a distraught community has wondered what happened to the "beautiful" and "bubbly" Tina Satchwell after she disappeared from her town in Cork back in 2017 but a recent grim discovery has finally offered a breakthrough in the previously unsolvable case.
Mrs Satchwell was described as 5ft 6in tall, of medium build with blonde shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. Other relatives, some of whom made an appeal for information on her whereabouts last week, described her as a striking character and well-known in Youghal for her personal sense of style. All of Tina's personal belongings including her keys were left at the home along with her two well-loved dogs. Richard later admitted that not immediately contacting the Gardai was a mistake on his part. He claims he first believed his wife had gone to stay with family in Fermoy.
Extensive searches were conducted around Youghal and the wider East Cork area throughout April and May of 2017, with little trace of Tina recovered. Speaking in 2018, Richard described the last moments he spent with Tina, and how when he returned home, she had apparently vanished. Over the years the investigation into Tina's disappearance has looked into almost 400 separate lines of enquiry - including liaising with international police forces and Interpol. It seemed to be going cold, until a major development this year.
