DECISION TIME: Voters wait in the queue to cast their votes during Nigeria's Presidential election at a polling station in Abuja , Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party , and Peter Obi of the smaller Labour Party are considered to have a realistic chance of winning.

According to a Reuters tally of provisional results announced by electoral officials in ten of Nigeria’s 36 states, Tinubu currently leads with about 3.29 million votes against 2.28 million for Abubakar and 818,000 for Obi. Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the INEC, said there would be many more states concluding soon with results coming to Abuja.

“It will be a disservice to Nigerians and a negation to democracy for anyone to subvert the will of the people as freely expressed in their votes yesterday,” he said in a statement. An observers group, Yiaga Africa, also questioned the delays and urged the INEC to come forward with more details on the reasons.
