In addition to the original worldwide gross of over $1.84 billion, making it the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark, the 2012 re-release of the film earned it an additional $343.6 million worldwide, making the film's global total $2.195 billion and rendering it only the second film to gross more than $2 billion after another James Cameron movie, Avatar.
