District Judge Richard Thompson told Lily Smith: 'Do it again and you'll go to prison'
Lily Smith pleaded guilty to theft when she appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court on Tuesday . The court heard that 65-year-old Smith, of St Austin's Road, immediately admitted the offence when she was challenged at TK Maxx in the Fishergate Centre on March 23 of this year.
After looking at Smith's criminal record District Judge Richard Thompson pointed out that there had been a six-year period where she hadn't committed any offences, between 2016 and 2022. Defence solicitor Gareth Price said: "She has struggled with her mental health due to her partner's illness. He died last year. When he died she found herself homeless. She was sofa surfing for a period of time until she found some stability with her brother who is sat in court today.Smith was sentenced to six weeks in prison suspended for 12 months. She was ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
