TMNT's Metalhead gave the franchise an unofficial Transformers crossover, as the Turtles are used as the blueprint for an advanced fighting robot that can become a deadly vehicle at the drop of a hat.

When it comes to comic book characters who perfectly encapsulate the energy of Saturday Morning Cartoons, two franchises stand above the rest as the ultimate love letter to one’s childhood: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers. Now, those two nostalgic power-houses have come together to create a powerful killing machine...the likes of which fans have never seen before.

While both Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Transformers may be synonymous with kids' cartoons of the 1980s, their origins are almost exact opposites. TMNT originated as a comic book series from Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird which was then licensed by Playmates Toys. This led to a successful toy line and an animated series aimed at giving those toys a story while also subtly advertising the action figures themselves.

While chasing after April, Metalhead literally transforms from a fighting robot resembling a turtle to a vehicle that looks as though it could have been the perfect 1980s-era kids’ toy. As fans know, the main function of the Transformers are to transform from butt-kicking robot fighters into vehicles, whether that vehicle is a truck, plane, or sports car.

Even though it seems like Metalhead is the perfect cross between TMNT and Transformers, there was no official connection between the two franchises in the creation of this character. However, Metalhead’s existence is still the ultimate love letter to the cartoons of one’s childhood as it is the perfect amalgamation of TMNT and Transformers that fans have been wanting since the start of both series.
