Opinion: To forgive is a strength, not a weakness, so all power to the Abdallah family

I hope I never have to endure a fraction of the Abdallah family’s anguish. I cannot imagine losing one child, let alone three, or predict how I would react in such a scenario. I expect that there will be years of grief and excruciating work ahead for the parents and siblings of the slain children.
Miroslav Volf, professor of theology at Yale University Divinity School, is clear about the crucial obligation of Christians to forgive. “I do not make the argument for a love of the enemy that at the same time affirms justice and goes beyond it," he says. "I simply assume it to be a given of the Christian faith.”
