Comment: To understand Barilaro's koala implosion you need to understand where power truly lies in regional NSW | RobOakeshott1

For many of us living in regional and rural NSW, it was yet another head-scratching moment.

Rather, this one appears to be yet another of these increasingly common debates that are exposing how hollow Australian politics is today.Once again, it’s a political debate designed as red meat for commercial opinion media, rather than any rational, true advocacy of country constituents. The National Party, a small party that successfully targets its 5 per cent vote to maximise seats and power, is being challenged and its vote eroded by the Greens on the far North Coast and the Shooters and Fishers in western NSW. It is under threat from both flanks and vulnerable.

To understand this is to understand the absurd koala implosion of last week. Because this is a fight for developer interests, not a fight about farming. That it is not about farming is further shown by who is agitating the most. One MP from Coffs Harbour and one from the Lismore region.
