Classical music fans were dealt a blow on this day in 1986 when KLEF announced it was switching to a soft-rock format.
At the time, the fear was that Houston was going to be left without a full-time classical station. Alas, the fears were unfounded for a short time at least.
Less than a month later, KLEF was resurrected on 92.1 when KNYD, an easy listening station, switched to a classical music format. The KLEF call letters went away for good in September 1987 when it became KRTS. That lasted until 2004, when the station was sold and changed formats. It's now an urban gospel station.
