TEXARKANA, Ark. - Arkansas residents have until the end of the day to pay their personal property taxes, or be met with a costly penalty.
Late payers face a 10% penalty that will automatically be assessed personally and to real estate property. If it's real estate, there's also a compounded daily interest. Taxes can be paid by mail.
To avoid a late fee, all mail must be postmarked by today. Taxes are usually due on Oct. 15, but the deadline was extended since that date fell on Sunday. Tax Collector Laura Bates said efforts are being made to make it easier to pay taxes in Miller County. More from this section Body found in train hopper car at feed mill in Hope, Ark. Arkansas universities adapt to affirmative action changes "We've had a really good turnout this year. Right now, we're at a 81 or 82 percent collect of our original charge. I anticipate we'll collect anywhere from 85 to 87 of our original charge," said Bates.
For those who didn't make it to the tax collectors office Monday, payments can be made online by midnight. There's also a drop box at the Miller County Sheriff's Office.For more information on where you can make your payment in Miller County, go to the Miller County Tax Collector's website.
