South Australia's Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier said the toddler's death was a 'rare occurrence' but stressed the importance of making sure family members were vaccinated against COVID-19.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the state’s Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said the child had been previously well with mild respiratory symptoms.
“It is very tragic to have to report this to South Australians today and absolutely my deepest sympathy to this child’s family.The case has been referred to the Coroner to determine a cause of death. “I know parents who hear this news would be pretty worried and concerned that something may happen to their young child if they catch COVID and the best thing they can do is to make sure everybody else in the family is vaccine,” she said.
