El propietario del restaurante dice que el incidente duró solo 12 segundos. En ese tiempo, tres personas recibieron disparos, otra fue rozada por una bala y una sala llena de comensales se tiró al suelo. El propietario de NOVO Brasil declaró el lunes que el autor de los disparos en su restaurante de Chula Vista el sábado por la noche no era un cliente.
Según él, la disputa comenzó fuera del restaurante, y parecía que el joven de 16 años huía de alguien cuando se metió en NOVO. Al menos una de las personas que perseguían al adolescente lo siguió al interior. Cuando empezaron los disparos, 'todo el mundo se tiró al suelo', dijo Carneiro. Cuando comenzaron las llamadas al 911, surgió la preocupación de que se tratara de un tirador activo, y varias fuerzas del orden respondieron.
