After a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Sweden, the Matildas must regroup and overcome the United States to claim bronze. Follow all the action:
There’s a great tempo to this match already. In truth, there usually is between these two countries. Australia have begun well but USA seem far more in control in possession and are comfortable trying to play through the Matildas.Christen Press and Megan Rapinoe look dangerous in the pockets out wide and are clearly trying to find space behind the wing-backs. USA are pressing high, pegging Australia deep. As of yet though, they haven’t created a clear chance against the Matildas.
Anyhow, the whistle has blown and the match is underway. Australia have begun brightly and with plenty of energy. A sweeping ball from Kyah Simon finds Caitlin Foord inside the box for a great chance. Unfortunately Foord looked for a cut-back across the box that was cleared to safety. She should have been more selfish and taken the shot.
