A urgent appeal to help 5.2 million people affected by devastating floods has been launched by the United Nations.

"Let's stop sleepwalking toward the destruction of our planet by climate change," he said in a video message to an Islamabad ceremony launching the appeal.Mr Guterres will visit Pakistan on September 9 to tour areas "most impacted by this unprecedented climate catastrophe," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced.
Around 500,000 of those displaced are living in organised camps, while others have had to find their own shelter. "This is my commitment," he told reporters, saying his country faces "the toughest moment of its history."
