This year the former and current politicians are raising money for veterans of special forces and are now riding the final leg of an eight-day journey through parts of Western Australia. The Pollie Pedal is now in its 25th year and it’s the first time the event has been held in Western Australia. Almost 50 cyclists have set out on a 1,000km journey from Perth to regional towns in the state’s south west.

Tony Abbott co-founded the event in 1998 and says one of the highlights are visiting cafes and pubs for a chat with the locals.
