More than half the respondents in a survey say they do catch-up work at nights because of the amount of time spent on attending meetings each day.
It’s 5pm, and you’ve just left your last meeting of the day. “Great, now I can actually do some work,” you say to yourself.
“There’s a whole cohort of people who are just in meetings during the day, and then doing their work at night,” Atlassian’s work futurist Dominic Price said.Mr Price said the number of meetings ballooned after the pandemic as some leaders used them to compensate for the loss of in-person connection caused by the shift to remote working.
The report revealed that 78 per cent of knowledge workers find it difficult to get their work done because they are expected to attend so many meetings.not understanding the next steps to be taken after the meeting;“The answer is better leadership,” Mr Price said, suggesting that meetings should not be stopped altogether.
Productivity specialist Donna McGeorge says setting clear objectives for meetings tackles many common ills.“From now on, and for the rest of your life, before you click send on any meeting request, you need to finish the following sentence in the notes part of the : ‘By the end of this meeting, it would be great if ...’,” Ms McGeorge said.
