A Dothan City Jail inmate was assaulted over the weekend with a toothbrush that had been sharpened into a point, police said.
Officers responded to the assault Sunday. They found the victim suffering from a facial injury from the toothbrush that had been fashioned into a shank.
Dothan police said the suspect, Tark Tramon Hawkins, 25, was having a verbal altercation with the victim. Another inmate, Zyshawn Codaun Coker, 21, handed the weapon to Hawkins.A third inmate, Romillo Jamal Porter, 27, retrieved the weapon and hid it in a cell. Officers searched the cell and recovered the weapon.Hawkins is charged with second-degree assault and first-degree promoting prison contraband.All of the charges are felony crimes.
