UNDER REPRESENTED: Members of the NAHT Leaders for Race Equality want more black senior leaders across British schools
Frances Akinde is a member of the network and has been a headteacher at a special school in Kent for over three years. Ms Akinde revealed she has been looking at different academy groups and their approaches to diversity and slammed it for being “all exactly same”.According to the latest statistics for the school teacher workforce 92.7% of headteachers in England were White British.
She also warned black parents to “make sure your child is put in the right set” for their academic ability to avoid any problems later on. “People need to know they can challenge the school if you get a response that you don’t want,” she added. She said: “It needs to be coming from the top, from the Dfe, so active promotion for encouraging and engaging black teachers to move further up the senior leadership ladder.”
