Several Tories on the right of the party believe the decision to refer the incidents to the police is an attempt by the civil service,But one Tory dismissed the suggestion, warning the wider parliamentary party had grown sick of the pro-Johnson faction over the last 12 months. “We have all had to suck up the self-indulgence for too long. Patience is thin,” the former minister said.“Time was when Conservatives defended our institutions. Declaring war on the so-called ‘Blob’ is profoundly unconservative. They are behaving like a cult.”
Such is the febrile nature of Westminster within the Tory Party that speculation was being spread that letters of no confidence in“No one serious is at all upset,” one MP said. “And the letters talk is nonsense. He [Mr Johnson] has no meaningful support and patience beginning to run thin with those making such noises.A minister said that the reaction by MPs to Mr Johnson’s latest setback would mean the “party brand will get worse and it’s pretty low anyway”.
