Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks display will go ahead as planned on Tuesday night, despite cancellations in nearby areas due to the bushfire crisis. The New South Wales Rural Fire Service granted a total fire ban exemption for the event, however some popular vantage points will be closed.
The forested Balls Head Reserve and Bradleys Head will be blocked off, while fireworks at Parramatta Park will also be cancelled due to the fire risk with temperatures expected to climb above 40 degrees across western Sydney and regional areas. NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro called for the fireworks to be scrapped, but event organisers warned it would "seriously hurt" businesses.
