‘Total reset’: Top 20 Sydney house sales for 2021 tally almost $700m | Lucy_Macken
As this year’s home sellers made good on the biggest property boom in a generation, trophy homeowners fared even better, riding the wave of Sydney’s best-ever performing prestige market.
The Boyd penthouse scored the top property sale price at $60 million, thanks to former garbo Ian Malouf. The luxury, two-storey spread with five bedrooms, separate staff apartment, formal and informal lounge rooms, dining room with seating for 12, gymnasium, spa, home office suite and home cinema sets a national price record for a single apartment, and takes Crown’s settlement to almost $1 billion worth of off-the-plan purchases in the building.
The most expensive house was Rosemont, the Woollahra trophy home of Margot, Lady Burrell, sold for $45 million to financier Andrew Griffin, who in turn sold his Vaucluse house for about $32 million to freight boss Arthur Tzaneros. The Rose Bay residence Villa Florida was sold for about $45 million by veteran stockbroker Brent Potts.“It’s not just expats and buyers from Asia, but also locals whose wealth has soared in recent years on the stock market or from the success of their start-up ventures,” Bill Malouf said.
The trophy home boom spread beyond the harbourside suburbs, with nine sales for about $25 million setting records in suburbs such as Palm Beach, Abbotsford, Bronte and Tamarama.
