ANALYSIS: Tough start to 2020 for Dockers, but solid finish shows hope for the future
The improvement is in no small part due to the emergence of Luke Ryan as one of the best defenders in the game, while his supporting actors such as Taylin Duman and Brennan Cox were more than serviceable.
The forward booted 29 goals for the season and ranked second in the AFL for contested marks amongst key forwards. Four Dockers — Sean Darcy, Andrew Brayshaw, Adam Cerra and Caleb Serong — were named in the AFL Players' 22under22 squad and the first three of those made the final team. Brayshaw, in particular, appeared to relish increased time in the middle, with the 20-year-old averaging nearly 20 disposals , three clearances and more than two inside 50s per game.
The Dockers were without Griffin Logue, Joel Hamling, Alex Pearce, Sam Switkowski and Darcy Tucker for much of the year, and the fans' frustrations grew as injuries mounted.
